Challenge:
Immersive Solutions and Digital Experience

We are seeking to create a digital twin of our assets so that we can interact with them remotely with real-time information. How can we generate an immersive experience using the internet of things, artificial intelligence or other technologies?

Context

Transelec is Chile’s top provider of high-voltage systems. They have more than 10,000 km of transmission lines and 69 substations operating mainly at 500 kV and 220 kV, spanning from the Arica and Parinacota Region to Los Lagos Region in Chile. Transelec aims to lead in the use of immersive solutions and digital experiences in the field of electric transmission.

To achieve its goals, Transelec plans to create a digital twin of its assets, including all facilities and machinery, in a digital environment. This will allow them to interact with their assets on-site or remotely and access real-time information.

In recent years, Transelec has developed various advanced technological tools to support this initiative. They have established clear roles and responsibilities for managing the technological workflow. Additionally, they have a SAP system to keep records of all available assets, their visualizations, and a geographic information system (GIS) to track their locations. They have also incorporated APIs, ETLs, and RPA solutions into their architecture, with plans for integration in the near future.

Relevant data:

– 10,135 kilometers of transmission lines.

– 69 electrical substations throughout Chile

This challenge aims to explore immersive solutions and digital experiences that can be applied in the context of the Energy Transmission industry. The goal is to implement digital use cases that enhance our data usage and help daily operations, training, inspection of facilities, etc. This will be achieved through access to both historical and real-time information about the company’s facilities and assets.

It is important for these capabilities to become permanent within the company and be user-friendly for all Transelec employees.

This challenge seeks technologies such as Augmented and Virtual Reality (AR, VR), Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and others that are geared towards creating a digital space for Transelec’s substations, enabling the use of all available information. Real-time data collection is expected to facilitate monitoring, training, and data analysis of electrical substations.

Below you can find some questions that will allow you to broaden your vision regarding the problems and the opportunities associated with the challenge. Your solution does not need to solve all the variables to apply:

–  How can we improve the training process for analysts, inspectors, and operators using augmented reality technologies?

–  How can we remotely monitor a device to predict and prevent failures?

–  How can we simulate our assets in a digital environment?

–  How can we access asset information through a virtual representation of our facilities?

–  How can we supply useful information to field workers through immersive digital solutions?

–  How can we simulate extreme situations in our facilities and evaluate their responsiveness?

Please note that these questions are meant to inspire your thinking and are not requirements for your solution.

We take your existing solution or co-create one, test it in our facilities and, if successful, scale it commercially.
