Challenges:
Zero Noise

Normally, the passage of electricity through cables and equipment emits noise, which can be augmented by insufficient cleaning, imperfections in some elements or by climatic conditions.

How can we reduce, monitor, control and avoid noise propagation?

Context

When electricity passes through the cables and equipment of our substations, it emits noises caused by the operation of the equipment itself. The lack of cleanliness, the imperfections in some elements, or the weather conditions can increase this problem.

The noise caused by our facilities can impact our neighbors, especially in populated areas, and has legal implications due to the regulation (DS 38/2011). This decree establishes noise emission limits that apply to energy infrastructure. As it is a situation related to our social environment, we want to approach it differently.

The current applicable solution to our substations is high-rise insulating walls that prevent noise from spreading outside, nonetheless, they are not particularly aesthetic. We are open to finding new and other solutions to this matter.

This challenge seeks to reduce the noise level (decibels) emitted by some substations and lines in specific sectors and/or reduce the perceived noise by our neighbors. Thus, we can take care of the well-being of our neighbors and comply with the regulations.

This challenge seeks solutions such as a set of applications, technologies, systems, tools, services, etc., oriented to monitor, control, reduce; and/or eliminate noise competitively and innovatively. We will value solutions that have a different friendly approach. The aim is to find an effective, cost-efficient solution that has a technological or digital component.

Below you can find some questions that will allow you to broaden your vision regarding the problems and the opportunities associated with the challenge. Your solution does not need to solve all the variables to apply:

  • How could we reduce noise at Transelec’s facilities?
  • How could we avoid noise emissions at Transelec’s facilities?
  • How could we monitor and control noise at Transelec’s facilities?
  • How could we prevent noise from spreading outside the premises?
  • How could we reduce the noises that reach out to our neighbors’ homes?
  • How could we build silent facilities?

We take your existing solution or co-create one, test it in our facilities and, if successful, scale it commercially.
