Aware of the importance of the transmission system in the economic development of the country, Transelec continually conducts planning studies of the transmission system under different scenarios of growth of demand and installation of generating stations. The purpose of these studies is to identify expansion projects that will make it possible to minimize the updated investment, operating and outage costs of the interconnected electric system, as well as to improve the reliability of the system, ensuring compliance with the standards specified in the Technical Rules for Reliability and Quality of Service. On the basis of these studies, Transelec draws up an expansion plan for the following 10 years, which guides the development of investments and the associated decision-making involved.  The InfoGraph shows Transelec’s vision regarding the degree of reliability that the SIC has today and the level it would achieve in the medium term if the proposed investments take place.

In addition to studies inherent to the expansion of the existing transmission system, Transelec also studies the possibilities of interconnecting with other transmission systems or new generating stations.
